Your home, a reflection of your personality: decorating tricks

Your home, a reflection of your personality: decorating tricks

Life is full of changes and feelings, especially when we talk about the period between 20 and 30 years old: new neighbors, new cities and apartments... That is why today, we want to share some essential tips, recommended by interior designers, for the decoration of your home.

According to Justina Blakeney, designer, artist and author of the best seller "The New Bohemians", your home should reflect who you are. Considering that we are all constantly evolving, shouldn't our homes be changing too?

Choosing the furniture

Have you thought about taking an old piece of furniture from your friend's house? Have you discovered a flea market in your city? Do not hesitate, that furniture can give your apartment the timeless touch it needs. "Trends are fine, but vintage is forever" - Justina Blakeney.

If what you want is to give amplitude to the space you have, the best thing to do is to buy a mirror. Unlike paintings, they make everything cozier and reflect light. "A mirror can have the same effect as a window," explains Nick Gagne.

When it comes to buying a rug, Joe Berkowitz recommends getting a large rug to avoid running short. If it's big, it can be trimmed, but if it's short, it can't be stretched.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the furniture you buy should be made of natural materials. Marble and wood are substances that resist and last over time. "Natural materials are very grateful and withstand wear and tear well, so they will give you very good service if you take good care of them" - Justina Blakeney.

Choosing wall color

The wall color of a room changes throughout the day. You should be very careful when you choose the color. To avoid choosing a color that looks bad on the wall, Martyn Lawrence Bullard recommends that you always paint a sheet of paper first, about 60 x 90 cm, and hold it on the wall of the room you want to paint. Then observe how it looks at different times of the day: morning, afternoon and evening to make sure the color suits you at all times.

Sara Cukerbaum advises choosing neutral colors for walls as they never go out of style. She insists on taking the time to research and reflect on the color that best suits your apartment. By using neutral tones, you can combine them with more colorful objects that add a special touch. The designer suggests that it is more advisable to introduce color through paintings and accessories, as color trends change every few years.
