Let's make our hospitals more humane!

Believe in Art is a Non-Profit Cultural Association which, having identified a void in Spain in the area of Art and Health, was founded with the immediate goal of introducing artistic creativity into a hospital setting.

Although this is an initiative that has arisen through the Humanities rather than the Hospital sector itself, Believe in Art is fully integrated into and supported unconditionally by the Department of Health, Social Welfare and Family at the Government of Aragon, which chose Believe in Art in 2014 within its Health Quality Plan.

The objectives for the association can be summarised in three overarching points:

  1. Let's make our hospitals more humane! We want to use Art to help humanise the hospital and make it a warm and welcoming environment, the result of which will be improved quality in the patient's stay, that of their families and in the experience of the personnel working there.
  2. Establish a channel to bring artistic creativity into the lives of the patients in the hospital, making it a part of their daily routine and growing the presence of visual stimuli available to boost people's imagination and make them aware of the importance of creativity.
  3. Strength in togetherness. We want to offer artists and figures from the world of Culture a way forward that enables them to perform social work that is both culturally and artistically creative.

The hallmark of Believe in Art is working with distinguished stand-out artists, something that is somewhat rare among hospital-based projects, which will ensure the quality of the results obtained. Currently, Believe in Art is responsible for nearly 80 artistic displays in rooms and common areas, designed by a corresponding number of professional artists, and comprises a permanent body of 50 volunteers.
