La Escocesa

La Escocesa La Escocesa is a former industrial complex located in the district of Poblenou, Barcelona. In early 2008 the City Hall assigned the provisional management of the space to La Associació d'Idees, a group of artists from different disciplines with a long history of regular work in the factory. These artists continue to self-manage these installations, which are specifically dedicated to the visual arts, and offer low cost studios for artists to boost their careers through mobility and promotion, and by organising activities in the neighbourhood.

La Escocesa is a self-managed multidisciplinary artistic production centre which focuses on the visual arts, covering artists' needs at the different stages in their artistic creation, primarily promoting the artists' mobility, and ultimately supporting them in the presentation of their works, reaching agreements with spaces and institutions for exhibitions. La Escocesa is an artistic production centre which aims to: promote and offer studios, spaces, equipment and materials for creation; facilitate training and promotion of the resident artists' works within the Fábrica de Creación de La Escocesa; facilitate the professionalisation and improvement of their artistic careers; promote the project and creative and artistic skills and awareness among the local citizens; develop a work exchange programme with international artists and institutions. Currently, La Escocesa has 21 workshops in operation, which are between 25 and 35 m2 in size. Approximately 21 artists work in their installations.
